What is Reiki?

rei·ki
/rākē/ (pronounced ray-key)
  1. Japanese literal meaning: ‘universal life energy’
  2. a healing technique originating from Japan where the practitioner channels energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being.
  3. Biofield Medicine, which involves systems that use subtle energy fields in and around the body for medical purposes (National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine – NCCAM)

Reiki is an energy healing method used by a therapist with the goal of improving the flow of life energy in a person.  It is based on the concept that everything in this world has an energetic vibration – from music to plants and every living cell in the human body.

Energy can affect us in different ways.  Our life experiences sometimes stick with us, the effects being carried over time in our bodies and spirit. Negative energy can create blockages which can manifest itself as pain, whether psychological or physical.  Reiki helps to release this energy, replacing it with healing and positive energy, and therefore helping a person move forwards on all levels, whether it be physical, emotional or spiritual.

Reiki energy is a funny thing: it seems to have an intelligence of its own, flowing where it is needed most in order to create the healing conditions necessary for the individual’s needs.

Simply said: we are living in an energy world – and I am an energy girl!
